About this place
Opening its doors at 16:00 in the evening, Sushiya welcomes guests into a calm, understated atmosphere. Rather than rushing straight into sushi, part of the appeal here is lingering over a few small dishes and a quiet pour of sake before moving on to nigiri.
The menu features varied seafood dishes such as milt with ponzu, plain-grilled conger eel, and silver cod grilled with saikyo miso, alongside tuna croquettes and "bakudan" packed with tuna and sea urchin. Drink choices are just as varied, ranging from sakes like Denshu Tokubetsu Junmai, Hidakami Chokarakuchi Junmai, and Tedorigawa Yamahai Junmai to Hakushu and Yamazaki highballs, as well as wine.
The main dining course centers on individual nigiri sets, offered in Jo and Tokujo tiers. Both comprise 9 pieces of nigiri, a half roll, and a bowl of soup, highlighting seasonal fish such as tuna and squid with clean, careful technique. To finish, a dessert like roasted green tea pudding brings the meal to a satisfying close.
Counter and table seating accommodate solo diners and companions with equal ease. Reservations are accepted, making Sushiya a dependable destination when planning a relaxed dinner of drinks and sushi in Kichijoji.
